An Outsiders View

The Jump

The clouds crept slowly like ghosts across the pitch black sky, casting shadows from the faint moonlight upon the slightly ruffled sea. A dark figure stood at the entrance of an addit half way up the two hundred foot cliff. The breeze danced in his hair, his chest slowly rose and fell with each deep breath, his heart beating a little faster than normal, but he was calm. He had done this many times before, and although he was focussed and collected he still felt the thrill of the danger to come. He was looking at the barely lit spot in the sea he aimed to land; this was all he could see. Thankfully the sea was not very energetic, not like she had been a few days before. But she was not completely settled either, instead she seemed slightly restless almost as if she longed for the wind to strengthen and stir her into a storm once again. If there had been any swell, this would have made the task almost impossible. Suddenly almost without awareness of what he was doing, he leapt from the jagged ledge where he stood, chest pushed forward in a motion that suggested he was going to dive. For him this moment was everything, the decision was made there was no turning back, and the overwhelming certainty that he was to freefall one hundred feet until he hit the sea brought a sense of freedom from everything he had ever known, seen, felt, tasted. But at the same time it brought a tangible kind of meaning to everything he had experienced, and in this first second of freefall life made complete sense. As he fell he slowly started straightening up as he got closer to the spot he was still focussed upon. Just at the right moment he broke his gaze and looked straight ahead, allowing his body to align perfectly upright, his hands by his side he penetrated the darkness. As he surfaced the rush of endorphins flooded his body, he had survived, and he let out an almighty scream of relief and excitement.

Sane?

You say what’s normal
With lack of forethought
It all must fit into this toy box you create

I woke up late
Then stayed up late
It seems like years but it’s only been a day

I see my old self
And all this lost hope
I can not live life in the shadows of my soul

I said I don’t care
Because I am reckless
I’m saying what I really mean from now on

Winter Trees
Gazing at the moon through winter trees
Bare branches reaching to the sky
Capillaries from the earth
Evening's cloak pierced by emerging stars
Slither of moon shines from its shadowy form
Soon to be anew.
